FREDDIE TOLEDO ILL WITH COVID-19

We received word today from Mrs. Munoz that Freddie Toledo has come down with covid and is in the hospital on a ventilator!  Freddie is a beloved leader and great friend of the Kwahadis. He has participated for 50 years! We wish him strength as he battles this disease, and our hearts and prayers go with Freddie and his family.  We will share further details as we learn more.

56th Annual Winter Show Rehearsals Begin!

Kwahadis Off to a Good Start!

Seems like just yesterday we finished the last performance in February of the 2020 winter show!  The battle with the pandemic began shortly afterwards! It has been a challenging year, but now are beginning winter show rehearsals again! The Kwahadis danced most of the dances from the 2020 show program and got everyone in the spirit of winter dances!

The nice weather enabled us to rehearse on the outdoor patio – an excellent place to rehearse with a stage size similar to Kiva dance floor. It took a bit of effort to remember all of the songs and dance movements, but everyone joined inn and we pieced the show back together. All of the veteran performers remembered the dances well, and new dancers are on their way to learning the show!

We appreciate former Head Maiden, Cheyenne Leedy, coming out to help put the winter show together!  She remembers the choreography and songs well and helped the team get off to a good start!

We want to thank all of the Kwahadis and parents for your strong support of our safety rules to help keep our families protected. Your thoughtful safety efforts and the outdoor dancing helped us to get through a good day!

  1. WEAR YOUR MASK THROUGHOUT REHEARSAL
  2. WASH YOU HANDS IN THE MAKEUP ROOM UPON ENTERING THE KIVA.
  3. AS BEST WE CAN IN THE NATURE OF THE DANCES, KEEP DISTANCING FROM OTHERS.
  4. DO NOT TOUCH, SHAKE HANDS, OR HUG.  WE’LL GET BACK TO BEING FRIENDLY, BUT NOT NOW.
  5. IF YOU HAVE SYMPTOMS (Coughing, sneezing, wheezing, an elevated temperature) OR IF YOU HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO COVID OR DIAGNOSED WITH COVID YOU MUST STAY HOME UNTIL CLEARED. If you were exposed to Covid -19 during your Thanksgiving events you must stay home until cleared.
  6. LEAVE YOUR MASK ON AT REHEARSAL. WEAR YOUR MASK THROUGHOUT YOUR STAY AT THE KIVA. TAKE CARE TO PROTECT YOURSELF AND OTHERS.
  7. WASH YOUR HANDS DURING BREAKS, AND WASH YOUR HANDS BEFORE YOU DEPART FOR HOME.
  8. ALL WHO COME TO KIVA SHOULD FOLLOW SAME RULE – PARENTS, LEADERS, ALUMNI

We are all weary of the changes to our lives, but the pending dispersal of vaccines promises an end to this epidemic. New and better testing, and the promise of effective therapeutics, are also on the way! We don’t want to make mistakes here at the end of this journey. Be extra careful to protect yourself and those around you every day and every place you may go.

We are fortunate to be able to gather to create our show together! Let’s be smart about it by protecting everyone while we build a great winter show.

TOGETHER, WE CAN DO THIS!  😊

TRADING POST ANNUAL CHRISTMAS SALE

Customers help us pay the cost of keeping the Kiva open. The Kwahadi Museum Gift Store will be open on Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 – 5:00.     Please share the news of the gift shop with everyone you can.  Christmas shoppers help us pay the bills as we work towards the return of business next summer!  The store has many fine pieces of jewelry, collectables, art, pottery, books, and Kachina dolls.

Kwahadis may need a few things for their winter regalia. The gift shop has bells, skunk skins for anklets, fox skins for handing off belt in back, dance rattles, dance bows, red sashes, turtle shells, and shell bandoliers. Kwahadis can dress up their room at home and their collections with a piece of art from the half-off art sale or other discounted art such as kachina dolls. You can find one of many bargains in the large selection of great books on Indian people, crafts, history, and the Southwest!

We began playing Christmas music on the museum sound systems today! Christmas is not far away! The gift shop will be open two more weekends before Christmas on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 – 5 pm.

KIVA GIFT CARDS!

Alumnus and trustee, Dale Denny, has set up GIFT CARDS FOR THE TRADING POST! The gift cards can be purchased in the museum gift shop! The Christmas sale will continue the next two weekends!
